Tanner chess clock _ antique chess clocks

This first clock is a Tanner, it is a chess clock produced by William E, Tanner, assembled by Redhill Surrey and made in Wurttemburg at the end of the 19th century. The ‘Tanner’ chess clocks were used for most of the main chess tournaments at the beginning of the 20th century. This Tanner chess timer dates back to around the 1890s. He assembles HAC clocks (Hamburg American Clock Co.).

This chess clock for sale in our sincere opinion seems to have received some kind of restoration, because the wood of this model is not usually so dark, as far as the price is somewhat high although a piece of collection of these features does not appear for sale usually.

Junghans pocket chess clock - vintage chess clocks

Here we have a rough diamond, it is a ‘Junghans pocket‘ chess clock. It is a clock made in Germany by the prestigious watchmaker Junghans in the 1920s. To operate the clocks has a top rocker bar integrated perfectly into the casing and protected from accidental movements by attractive anchorages. The dials are spectacular, with a special luminosity that makes it characteristic and its dimensions are very small 14 cm x 7.5 cm x 5.6 cm and a weight of only 485 grs.

The chess clock seems in its original state without having undergone any type of restoration with signs of wear and tear. Just as the previous one may seem of a somewhat high price, but this is one of the chess clocks that anyone will not leave indifferent.

Pendulum chess clock - antique chess clock

This chess clock belongs to the Allan Troy collection. It is a pendulum chess clock that seems to assemble Junghans alarm clocks although the logos of this brand do not appear on the dials, it is very possible that they will be German machinerys. The seller assures that it is before 1900 but dating these types of chess clocks from a distance is complicated.

In our opinion is a chess clock quite expensive for what you see in the photos, we would have liked the seller to offer some pictures of the inside to check the pendular movement. To be clear is a purchase of whim.

Heuer Looping chess clock - vintage chess clock

Here we have a beautiful exponent of Swiss watchmaking ‘HEUER Swiss Looping Stopwatch‘. Despite being a chess clock of the 70s, it is a piece of engineering without equal, it represents the mechanical technology applied to chess clocks, as a result: a light, exact, silent clock, which serves as a beautiful colophon to a glamorous history of analog chess clocks.

It is a beautiful piece of collection, fully functional and does not envy the digital advance of chess clocks. Its price somewhat elevated in our opinion.

Chronotecna chess clock - vintage chess clock

One of the first chess clocks manufactured in bakelite is this Chronotechna. Manufactured in Stenberg in the former Czechoslovakia in the 1950-1960s. The dials incorporate the logo of Chronotechna, assemble clocks of Czech manufacture and in the upper part can be seen next to the pushbuttons, one central that serves as blockade of these. It is a clock of considerable dimensions, very used in Czech chess clubs.

The condition is very good, the drawback of these chess clocks was the breakage of the casing due to falls or blows because of the material in which they are built. The price is relatively reasonable.

Jantar Chess clock - vintage chess clocks

Finally we have decided to include this Soviet-made chess clock in the selection. It is a model Jantar 3 MChz dating from the 1960s. It is a large clock widely used in the tournaments held in the former Soviet Union and in those countries under its influence. In spite of its appearance, it is a relatively silent chess clock and incorporate the central locking of the buttons, that already used in the 1920s HAC models.

It is excellently preserved, with a beautiful color of wood and no traces of use. The price is very reasonable and without a doubt, it is an excellent vintage chess clock to incorporate into the collection.
